What we do

Interior decorating

Living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, halls, stairs and landings. Clean cut lines, tidy edges, and a house you can live in while the work is going on. Everything gets covered before we start and hoovered before we leave, every day, not just at the end.

What is included

Every interior decorating job, covered properly

Halls, stairs and landings

The job most people put off, because it is all height, awkward access and cutting in. Proper access equipment rather than a ladder balanced on a stair, so the spindles, the stringer and the ceiling all get done properly instead of nearly.

Living rooms and bedrooms

Walls made flat first, then finished in the sheen you chose. Feature walls set out so the pattern or the colour break lands where it should, and the woodwork brought up to match rather than left looking older than the walls.

Kitchens and bathrooms

Moisture-resistant and wipeable finishes where steam and splashing live, cut in tight to units and tiles, and silicone lines renewed where the old ones have gone. Painted kitchen cabinets where you want the look without a new kitchen.

Ceilings and coving

Ceilings rolled out in one pass so there are no lap marks in the daylight, stains blocked properly rather than painted over, and coving cut in by hand so the line between wall and ceiling is straight.

Wallpaper and lining

Hanging, stripping and lining. Old paper taken off and the wall made good, because paint over lifting paper always tells within a month. Pattern matched and set out from the wall the eye lands on first.

Living in it while we work

Dust sheets down, doors closed, sockets and switches off rather than masked, and the room put back at the end of the day where the job runs over more than one. Nobody wants to eat their tea in a building site for a week.

Questions

Asked and answered

Can I stay in the house while you decorate?

Almost always, yes. We work room by room, keep the mess contained to where we are, and put things back at the end of each day. The only rooms that genuinely disrupt a house are the hall, stairs and landing, because everyone has to walk through them, and for those we plan the days so the stairs are usable each evening.

How long does paint need before the room is usable again?

Modern water-based paints are touch dry in a couple of hours and fine to live with the same evening. Woodwork in a full gloss or a hard-wearing eggshell wants longer before anything gets pushed against it, ideally overnight, and we will tell you which surfaces to leave alone.

Do you paint over Artex or textured ceilings?

We can, but the better answer in most rooms is to have it skimmed flat first, and we will say so. Painting textured ceilings is straightforward and cheap, and it looks exactly like a painted textured ceiling. If you want it gone, that is a plastering job and we will price both so you can choose.

Can you match a colour I already have?

Usually. If you have the tin or the colour name it is simple. If you do not, most trade centres will scan a chip of the existing paint and mix to it, and a small piece of skirting or a filler cap taken off the wall is enough to scan. The match is close but not always perfect on an old, faded wall, and we will be honest about that rather than promise it.

Do you decorate rented or empty properties between tenants?

Regularly. Empty property is the easiest kind of job because there is nothing to work around, so it is quick and it prices well. Give us access and a date the new tenant moves in and we will work back from it.

What is the difference between eggshell, satin and gloss on woodwork?

Gloss is the shiniest and shows every imperfection in the wood underneath. Satin sits in the middle. Eggshell is the low-sheen finish most people now choose for skirtings and doors because it looks modern and hides small defects. All three are durable in a decent trade product, so it is genuinely a look decision rather than a quality one.
